-Before you begin

Please notice that topics are in alphabetical order. Most topics have three sections:

  1. Numbered steps to complete the task.
  2. An example of how it will look while editing a page.
  3. The final appearance once the page is saved.

-Bold

  1. Place a plus sign (+) immediately before the word or phrase to be bolded.
  2. Type the word or words.
  3. Type another plus sign (+) immediately after the word or phrase.
Example:   +phrase to be bolded+

Final appearance:   phrase to be bolded


-Create a New Page

  1. Create a link to the new page first by typing the name of the new page. The name should be theWords Smashed Together with each word starting with a capital letter. (See "Links (to other pages within the same website)" in this document for more information.
  2. Save the page. (There will be a question mark (?) immediately following the link name.)
  3. Click on the newly created link and a new, blank web page will appear.

-Headings

  1. Place a blank line above the heading.
  2. Type an equals sign (=) immediately before the heading.
  3. Place a blank line below the heading.
Example:   = Heading phrase

Final appearance:

-Heading phrase

Note:   There must be a blank line above and below the heading. The heading will automatically be bolded.


-Images (general)

  1. Type an open sqaure bracket ( [ ).
  2. Type the image title if there is one.
  3. Type a colon.
  4. Type the url or path to the image.
  5. If the image is to be aligned, add a colon and the word left, right or center.
  6. Type a close square backet ( ] ).
Example:   [:/photo/me/stilllife.jpg:right] or [caption:/photo/me/stilllife.jpg]

-Italic

  1. Place a slash (/) immediately before the word or phrase to be italicized.
  2. Type the word or words.
  3. Type another slash (/) immediately after the word or phrase.
Example:   /phrase to be italicized/

Final appearance:

phrase to be italicized


-Line (aka Seperator)

  1. Type at least four dashes (-).

-Links (to an email address)

  1. Type the complete email address anywhere in the text.
Example:   caleb@chiefworks.com

-Links (to other pages within the same website)

  1. Type the name of the page. The name should be theWords Smashed Together with each word starting with a capital letter.
Example:   Smashed Words Together.

Note:   If the page has not been previously created, there will be a question mark (?) immediately following the link name once the page is saved. See "Create a New Web Page" heading in this document for more information.

Note:   On most sites, any phrase can be a wiki link simply by enclosing it in square brackets. Useing a capital leter to start the link is recommended.

Example:   [Jeeping in Colorado]

-Links (to other websites)

  1. Type http:// followed by the complete website address.
Example:   http://caleb.alerque.com

Note:   A word can be used as a link to make the text easier to read. For example to use the word google as the link

instead of http://google.com type the following in the paragraph:

[google|http://google.com]

-Lists (bulleted)

  1. Place a blank line above the list.
  2. Type an asterisk (*) at the beginning of each line in the list.
  3. Place a blank line below the list.
Example:  
blank line
* first item in the bulleted list
* second item in the bulleted list
blank line

Final appearance:

  • first item in the bulleted list
  • second item in the bulleted list

-Lists (multi-level)

  1. Place a blank line above the list.
  2. Type one asterisk (*) at the beginning of each line to be the first level in the list.
  3. Type two asterisks (**) at the beginning of each line to be the second level in the list.
  4. Place a blank line below the list.
Example:  
blank line
* first item at the first level in the bulleted list
** first item at the second level in the bulleted list
** second item at the second level in the bulleted list
blank line

Final appearance:

  • Item at first level in the bulleted list
    • First item at the second level in the bulleted list
    • Second item at the second level in the bulleted list

Note:   It is possible to use both bullets and numbers in multi-level lists.


-Lists (numbered)

  1. Place a blank line above the list.
  2. Type a pound symbol (#) at the beginning of each line in the list.
  3. Place a blank line below the list.
Example:  
blank line
# first item in the numbered list
# second item in the numbered list
blank line

Final appearance:

  1. first item in the numbered list
  2. second item in the numbered list

-Paragraphs

  1. Place a blank line above the paragraph.
  2. Type the paragraph (it does not matter if it is less than one line or multiple lines).
  3. Place a blank line below the paragraph.

-Paragraphs (indented quote blocks)

  1. Place a blank line above the paragraph.
  2. Type a greater-than symbol (>) at the beginning of the paragraph.
  3. Place a blank line below the paragraph.
Example:  
blank line
> The text of the paragraph to be indented.

Final appearance:

The text of the paragraph to be indented.

-Preformatted text

Preformatted text such as code may be entered by starting each line with a single space.


-Underline

  1. Place an underline (_) immediately before the word or phrase to be underlined.
  2. Type the word or words.
  3. Type another undersline (_) immediately after the word or phrase.
Example:   _phrase to be underlined_

Final appearance:   phrase to be underlined
